Will You Sign This?

June 19, 2008 by friscocycling

I was sent this e-mail from a cycling group we belong to, BikeDFW.  I hope you will join me in clicking that link below, filling out a fast registration tab and that adds your name to a petition.  Thanks in advance!   Petition in Support of Bicycling in North Texas7 cyclists in the past 7 days have been hit by cars in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. 2 were killed, 1 is in critical condition in the ICU at last report.

It’s all just too much. Recently a city council person said “Well there are not many people in my district who want to ride bikes anyway” Let’s prove him and a whole host of others like him wrong.

This isn’t just for the roadies or the mountain bikers – although we want you to sign it! It is for your neighbors whose kids ride to school, it is for the older couple on the corner who ride around the block. It is for anyone who in any way at all wants to see bikes on the streets without fear in North Texas. It is for those who would rather ride off the street, is is for those who will ride anywhere – and mostly – for those who won’t ride at all given current conditions.

Please forward this to everyone and anyone – it will not be used for commercial purposes, it will be used to answer comments such as the one above with “Well sir, actually there are 1217 people in your district who WANT to cycle!” and be able to prove it.

Sign the petition

Sincerely -
BikeDFW

Team Results:

June 19, 2008 by friscocycling

As you know, the FCC is not just a group of well meaning, community based cyclist- we also race.  2 of our highly regarded track stars, Suzie Goodwin and Jeff LaBauve decided to go after a few adventure races recently.  The 1st race was the White Rock Adventure race and even with a few mechanicals- they got 3rd place.  Then- in the Rock Sticks Challenge, how about 1st over all and 1st Coed!

The Superdrome was host to Masters Nationals and Tom Ernest, Al Brodie and Jeff Barrett all competed for FCC and results can be found here.  Remember, most every Friday night there is track racing at our Velodrome- check the calendar to make sure and come join us at a race or in the stands!

This note came to us from the Plano Bicycle Association, please share:

Dear PBA Member,

Due to continued pressure from the Legacy/Independence property manager for the PBA to move, we will be moving the start/end location of our Saturday and Sunday morning rides, effective Saturday, June 21.  This move only applies to those rides that start and end from Legacy and Independence on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

The new location is the NW corner of Coit and Spring Creek, as shown in the map.

Much time and research went into finding a suitable location.  Unfortunately, no location compares with our current location.  However, the new location property manager is eager to have us there, the eating establishments have been approached and know we are coming, and there is plenty of parking.  The main challenge will be the ride ends at that location.  Coit and Spring Creek is a heavily traveled intersection.  No ride should travel north on Coit and attempt to negotiate a left turn onto Spring Creek.  Always enter the parking lot from the north or east.

Finding the best entry/exit routes to/from the new location will be a continuing process over the coming weeks.  Please work with your ride leaders in testing the various options.

Also please remember that current parking lot etiquette will apply at the new location. Don’t know what it is? Then ask your ride leader.

Thank you for your cooperation!

Chris
PBA President
